Cleveland Bridge chooses AFI for site access

Cleveland Bridge UK has hired seven AFI boom lifts to provide site access for a contract to supply five bridges as part of the expansion of the Nottingham Express Transit tramline system.

To overcome the problem of accessing part of the site over a flood relief channel, Cleveland Bridge has hired a JLG 800AJ boom, which has a horizontal outreach of 15.74 m and a platform height of 24.38 m.

Ronnie Long, Cleveland Bridge UK project manager, said: “We have also hired five Haulotte HA16PX boom lifts from AFI because they have very good manoeuvrability and provide sufficient reach for us to work on the bridge structures.”

Some of Cleveland Bridge’s work takes place at night and because it is near to domestic properties there is a requirement to keep decibel levels down. For this element of the work, the company has hired a quieter Genie bi-energy boom from AFI, it said.

Nottingham Express Transit’s project to extend the city’s tramlines to the South and South West of the City is due to be completed and open to the public in late 2014.
