UK organisation PASMA, (Prefabricated Access Suppliers and Manufacturers Association) trained more than 50000 delegates in the safe use of mobile access towers during 2008.

Last year also saw the introduction of the association's new low level access training course, the launch of new tower inspection guidance and a move to new premises in Glasgow city centre, the association's first dedicated headquarters.

Novice instructors were supported through the association's mentoring scheme and 16 lead instructors are now located strategically throughout the UK and Ireland.

CPD (continuing professional development) remained a major theme during 2008 and has become integral to the way the association ensures its members and trainers are kept abreast of the latest legislation, trends and developments.

Peter Bennett, the association's managing director said, "2008 was a landmark year for PASMA new member recruitment and training centre registration stayed strong, and training delegate throughput reached record levels.

"There is no doubt that for many people, because of the reputation of the PASMA training course, no other proof of competence will do.

"We also saw a marked shift towards the use of towers in industry sectors other than construction, particularly in cleaning, facilities management and factory maintenance."
