Manitou’s Safe Man System (SMS) secondary guarding solution has been introduced to Australia.

The system is fully compliant with EN 280 standards and is available on all the manufacture’s booms as an option. Complying with the European standard also covers current requirements in Australia, said Manitou Australia.

The devise incorporates a bar that is fitted to the front of the control panel without interfering with the operator’s visibility around the control panel. If pressure is placed on the bar for more than three seconds while the machine is active, all functions become inactive. An audible alarm is also activated and a blue beacon flashes.

The boom then automatically retracts. The operator can free themselves by using a bypass button which allows them to take control and disengage. The system is increasingly requested in Australia, said Manitou Australia, especially in the mining industry.
