Geda viaduct project makes history in Slovenia

Hoist specialist Geda is supporting the largest viaduct renovation in Slovenia’s history, with its work on the Skedenj-I and Skedenj-II bridges, near near Maribor.

The Skedenj-I bridge stretches 530m and reaches up to 30m  in height, while Skedenj-II spans 400m and rises to 50m. Both structures are fully scaffolded for the renovation, with hanging scaffolds installed along their entire underside- an engineering feat requiring reliable vertical transport solutions.

Geda has supplied two units:

  • The 300 Z, a material hoist capable of lifting 300kg at 30m/min to heights up to 100m.
  • The 500 Z/ZP, a transport platform that handles 500kg or five passengers, operating at 24m/min for materials and 12m/min for people. Both are equipped with high-safety landing level gates in Comfort and Eco versions.

Geda’s long-standing partnership with Slovenian construction specialist Hegomont, which is carrying out the project, is now in its 25th year. The renovation is expected to last six months and marks the largest and most financially significant construction project in Hegomont’s history.

“This is the largest renovation of viaducts - highway bridges - in the history of Slovenia,” said Jernej Gornjak, Technical Director at Hegomont. “We could never have successfully completed such a massive project under such demanding conditions without the help of Geda elevators. Thanks to their support, we are progressing rapidly with the construction of the hanging scaffolds at a pace of over 12m per day along the entire underside of the bridge.”
