Serious:XR to preview at Bauma 2019

Serious Labs will preview its virtual reality training simulation platform at Bauma in Munich, Germany, next week.

The company’s new platform, Serious: XR, allows multiple users to interact with each other remotely from anywhere in the world. Specially designed for workers in plant and industrial environments, Serious Labs said the technology allows trainees to undertake practical and emergency operations in a safe environment.

Wade Carson, director of business development at Serious Labs, said, “Safety and competency are crucial for any worksite, but logistics, time and resources often make training a challenge.” He added, “Collaborative VR training overcomes the obstacles of assessing practical, hands-on experience for today’s global workforce.”

Serious Labs, which designs and provides virtual reality training solutions, said that learning by experience leads to greater comprehension and retention.

The new Serious: XR platform is primarily geared toward training and assessing equipment operators, but Serious Labs said the technology was, theoretically, customisable to all types of businesses.

Ingrid Montpetit, AB ops learning leader at Dow Chemical Company, said, “We worked with Serious Labs to develop training so operators can go into a VR environment and isolate valves, MCCs, open bleeds and tag out pieces of equipment. They also offer VR simulators which we plan to use in our base training and competency checks.”

Serious Labs was invited to premier its technology at Bauma by the Canadian government, after Canada was named Bauma’s 2019 country sponsor.
