27 November 2018

The new ANSI A92.20/.22/.24 design, safe-use and training standards have been approved and will be published Dec. 10. The standards will become effective 12 months from the publication date, or December 2019. The current A92.3/5/6/8 standards will remain active during this time and will be withdrawn after the effective date of the new standards.

“All industry stakeholders need to begin their planning to implement the requirements of the new standards by the effective date,” the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) stated. “The current A92.3/5/6/8 standards will remain active during this time and will be withdrawn after the effective date of the new standards.”

The new standards include:

  • A92.20-2018: Design, Calculations, Safety Requirements, and Test Methods for mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs)
  • A92.22-2018: Safe Use of MEWPs
  • A92.24-2018: Training Requirements for the Use, Operation, Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of MEWPs

IPAF will be issuing white papers for both the U.S. (ANSI) and Canada (CSA) that focus on users and dealers. IPAF said an email will be sent out shortly with a link to IPAF’s website for free downloads. A version will also be made available to allow IPAF members to add their logo to the document and provide it to customers.

“These white papers will summarize the many important changes made in these standards that will impact every industry stakeholder from manufacturer to occupant,” IPAF said.
