JLG debuts MEWP Supervisor Training

11 February 2019

In response to the new ANSI standards recently approved for Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) equipment, JLG has added MEWP Supervisor Training to its training program. The new standards, set for implementation in December, require anyone with supervisory responsibilities over people operating MEWPs to complete this type of training.

The JLG program is designed to meet this requirement and includes a series of five online modules that have been developed by JLG experts who have an in-depth knowledge of both MEWP operation and the new ANSI standards. In addition to fulfilling a requirement of the new standards, successful trainees will be eligible to receive an official “MEWP Supervisor” training card to confirm completion of the course.

Rick Smith

According to Rick Smith, JLG senior director of global product training, “Beyond being a requirement under the new ANSI standards, this is critically important safety training for anyone who supervises or plans to supervise employees who operate MEWPs.”

JLG’s MEWP Supervisor Training covers a variety of topics including how to select the right MEWP for the job and how to identify and protect against potential hazards associated with the use of MEWPs. Additionally, trainees will learn the rules, regulations and standards that apply to the equipment, in accordance with the newest ANSI standards.

“The feedback from rental owners and jobsite managers has been overwhelmingly supportive for this type of training program,” Smith said. “As the company that founded the access industry 50 years ago to provide people with a safer way to work at height, the program demonstrates our continued focus and commitment to safety.
