Boels Rental has acquired Netherlands-based specialist Chemelot Safety Shop. No financial details of the transaction have been revealed.

Headquartered in Sittard-Geleen in the south of the country, Chemelot is being sold by its owner Sitech. The company mainly focuses on the rental, sale and maintenance of gas detection, breathing air solutions and protective clothing.

Boels said that with the acquisition of Chemelot, which joins Boels Industrial, the specialist rental business of Boels Rental for the industrial and petrochemical sector, the company will become a “specialist in the field of industrial safety equipment.”

According to Boels, the activities and customer base of Chemelot will “optimally match Boels Industrial” and enable Chemelot customers to benefit from access to an “even larger specialist range.”

It also expands its geographical footprint in the industrial space to 18 locations, with the company operating existing branches in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

Reiant Mulder, COO, Boels Rental, “This extension emphasises our promise to be the one-stop-solution rental partner for our customers, even in the highly specialised industrial sector where safety is paramount.”

According to Robbert Willemsen, managing director of Boels Industrial, the proximity of the business to nearby major industrial sites will play an important role in future growth.

He said, “Being on-site or near-site maximises uptime for customers with optimal equipment availability and 24/7 service by certified experts. The extension perfectly positions Boels for further growth in the specialised industrial sector.

The acquisition is the latest specialty move that Boels has carried out. In March the company announced that it was buying Netherlands-based aerial platform renter Riwal, creating a combined fleet of 55,000 aerial platforms and making it the owner of the second largest aerials fleet in Europe and the sixth largest in the world.
