Allan Hemmings managing director of Peter Hird Ltd is congratulated on his retirement by members of the Access Link and Niftylift.

Access Link, a UK consortium of UK access rental companies, marked the retirement of cranes and access industry veteran Allan Hemmings at its last meeting at the end of October hosted by Niftylift.

Mr Hemmings had continued to act as managing director of Peter Hird Ltd of Hull for two years past normal retirement date and will be succeeded by Philip Hird.

Mr Hemmings is a keen and regular flyer as a surprise he was taken out of the meeting by Tim Ward sales director of Niftylift for a couple of minutes while the members and hosts prepared for his presentation. Malcolm Bowers chairman of the Link said, "On his return he was bowled over by the sight of 28 people sat around the table in Pilot's helmets and white scarves. He was then presented with an Irish lead crystal cut glass engraved tankard."

Also at the meeting a presentation was given by Malcolm North of Niftylift followed by a product demonstration where the SiOPS system - designed to prevent crushing injuries - was demonstrated on an HR17 4x4 Hybrid model. Guest speakers were Graham Hughes of TVH (Parts) and Tony Humberstone of Reach Local (Website optimisation).

The Link decided that AJ Rentals should continue as a member following its recent acquisition by AFI. AFI's decision to keep AJ Rentals as a stand alone brand helped the members to arrive at this decision.

Again the Link pledged its support for the IPAF Rental + scheme and the new members reported good progress in gaining the accreditation.
