A system to suspend access platforms where anchors cannot be placed on the top of a building has been developed by Fixator of France. It has designed a temporary mast – comprising 1.5 m long sections each weighting 25 kg – that can be built up to 50 m high and from which standard Fixator platforms can be suspended. Stirrups fitted to the ends of the platform connect it to the mast for additional stability and the mast is anchored to the façade at 6 m intervals. The system will accommodate platforms between 2 m and 12 m long and has capacities of between 700 kg and 900 kg. Mr Yffic Lemoine, manager of export sales, told AI the system would not compete with mast climbers, but would extend the application areas for suspended platforms and provide an alternative to traditional scaffolding.
