Atlas Copco launches mobile battery fast-charger

Atlas Copco has introduced a mobile rapid-charging station designed for recharging applications in construction, industry and events.

The FCS 220-240 combines a 232kWh energy storage system with a charging output of up to 220kW DC and a 50kW auxiliary AC output.

It will enable rapid charging of electric vehicles and construction equipment such as excavators, wheel loaders and trucks. The unit is towable, weighing less than 3.5 tonnes, and has a robust, IP55-rated enclosure design.

Tobias Schuster, who is divisional product marketing manager for energy storage systems at Atlas Copco, said; “One of the biggest barriers to using electric equipment on site is keeping it running throughout the working day.

“The FCS 220-240 gives customers a practical way to bring high-power charging directly to their operations, helping them extend runtime, improve productivity and reduce reliance on diesel-powered equipment.”

The manufacturer said an advantage of the system is its ability to extend the operating time of electric equipment, helping customers achieve a full working day without relying on diesel backup.

Five additional hours

Customer tests have shown that the FCS 220-240 can deliver up to five additional operating hours per day for a single hour of charging. Multiple connectors enable simultaneous charging of multiple machines, increasing overall site productivity.

The unit has charge-to-recharge capability, allowing it to be recharged via grid connections, EV infrastructure or generators, while continuing to supply power.

The FCS 220-240 comes with Atlas Copco’s ECO Controller for energy management and operational control. Dynamic Load Management allows the system to balance charging demand with auxiliary power requirements, including up to 50kW AC output for additional site loads.

The system also offers user access controls, allowing site managers and rental companies to define permissions for different users, from basic operation to full configuration.

The new charger is produced by Atlas Copco’s Portable Power and Flow division within the Power technique business area. Power and Flow produces mobile generators, energy storage systems, light towers, and portable and industrial pumps.

The division is headquartered in Rock Hill, USA and has development and manufacturing sites in Europe, China, the Middle East and Brazil.
