24 April 2008

The current high levels of demand for aerial platforms is likely to continue for at least a further 18 months, said Craig Paylor, JLG's vice president of sales and marketing for North America, and the slowdown when it comes is likely to be less severe than occurred in 2000-2002. “I think we're good for 18 months”, he told AI at the Rental Show.

Mr Paylor also revealed the strategy for the ServicePlus business in North America was being adjusted following the recent appointment of Joe Dixon - the ex-Home Depot rental executive - as president. For details on this, and more, see AI's interview with Mr Paylor in the April-May issue.

• JLG has reopened its 340000 ft2 Orrville facility in Ohio, which was closed in 2003. Orrville will house the telehandler manufacturing activities that were previously carried out at its Gradall facility in New Philadelphia. JLG sold its Gradall excavator business, including the New Philadelphia plant, to the Alamo Group in early February. In addition, JLG's North American service parts business will move from McConnellsburg to Orrville.
