Brad Boehler of Skyjack congratulates Patricia Steadman of SteadMan Lift Systems on the successful completion of her AWPT training course at the APS.

AWPT training conducted immediately preceding the Aerial Platform Safety Conference & Expo (APS) was sold out, reflecting the growing popularity of platform training in North America.

'There was huge interest in the universally-recognised proof of training that AWPT's PAL Card can offer and the additional technical services that we are developing for members,” said Dennis Eckstine, Vice-President of AWPT.

One of those who received training was Patricia Steadman, who recently started her rental business, SteadMan Lift Systems in Overland Park, Kansas. 'I attended the AWPT training to attain the PAL Card certification and to learn as much as possible about aerial safety, accident cause and prevention,” said Steadman. 'It was an extra bonus that the AWPT training is the first programme to meet the ISO standard. I was thoroughly impressed with the 'in class' instruction and the 'hands on' training.”

The APS conference from 30 November to 2 December, which AWPT co-sponsored, was well attended and featured speakers from all sectors of the industry on a broad variety of aspects of training and safe use of equipment. One of the best-attended presentations was that given by IPAF international training manager Rupert Douglas-Jones on the subject of harnesses in aerial work platforms.
