Climbers clean Cairo Tower

24 April 2008

The mast climbers, bought by Arab Contractors and installed in March this year, are 128 m high and are being used both to externally refurbish the open lattice structure and to replace a mosaic at the top of the tower. The platforms are also being used to help with refurbishment work on the inside of the structure. The decks, specially extended to match the curvature of the structure, are 9.8 m long.

The tower, built between 1956 and 1961, is 187 m tall and has an observation deck and revolving restaurant at the top.

Massimo Toni, general manager of ASClimber, told AI that the MC36/15s were selected “because of the cost-effective solution proposed and the ‘ease of use' (all mast erection can be done by hand) and the heavy duty function of the machine.” The MC36/15 has a 1500 kg carrying capacity in single mast configuration.

Asclimber (Access Systems Climber), which is part of the Spanish Resa Group that includes scaffolding businesses, makes a wide range of mast climbers, hoists and special access equipment.
