Tadano sales up strongly, profits fall

Sales were up by double digits at Japanese crane manufacturer Tadano for the first half of 2025 following recent acquisitions but profits declined.

Net sales increased to JPY 164,791 million (US$ 1.12 billion), up 16.6 per cent on the JPY 141,381 million ($ 958 million) in the first half of 2024. It was a different story for profit, however, with operating profit at JPY 8,855 million ($60 million and 5.4 % of sales) down almost 30 % from JPY 12,283 million ($83 million and 8.7 % of sales) in H1 2024.

Wheeled cranes up

Mobile cranes, by far the largest segment, were up 5.4 % with a JPY 103,127 million ($699 million) share of the total. Truck loader crane sales jumped by JPY 9,890 million ($67 million) as a result of the contribution from recently acquired Manitex.

Aerial work platform sales were up 39.4 % with a JPY 14,123 million ($95.7 million) share of the group total.

Geographically, Tadano reported a 5 % increase in demand for its mobile (all terrain, rough terrain, truck) cranes overall. By region the only one showing an increase in demand (units) was the Middle East, up by 29.3 %. All other areas were either flat (North America, Japan) or down.

In outlook, full year total Tadano Group sales are forecast to increase from JPY 291,500 million ($1.98 billion) in 2024 to JPY 355,000 million ($2.41 billion) in 2025, an increase of 21.8 %.
