Haulotte launches obstacle detection and customer initiative at APEX

Haulotte announced its new Drive Confidence initiative at APEX and unveiled the Obstacle Detection Assist (ODA) safety device.

The ODA was featured on the HA20 E PRO – the latest articulating boom from Haulotte’s Pulseo range and the key model on its booth during the show, which took place last week in Maastricht.

The device focuses on the most exposed area of the machine: the upper structure, where collision risks are highest. Using a network of intelligently positioned ultrasonic sensors, the system continuously scans the surrounding environment to detect any nearby obstacle that could interfere with the machine’s movement. It is particularly relevant for sensitive environments such as industrial facilities, aviation, or areas with valuable infrastructure, where precision is critical and even minor contact can lead to significant consequences.

Designed for demanding indoor and outdoor applications, the electric HA20 E Pro is designed for excellent manoeuvrability, up to 40% gradeability and enhanced versatility thanks to the Extra Reach option, which increases platform capacity from 250kg to 350kg.

According to Haulotte, the HA20 E Pro illustrates its commitment to providing more than just a machine; rather an ecosystem of equipment, services, and digital solutions designed to enhance safety, optimize performance and support customers.

Drive confidence initiative 

This is also demonstrated by the company’s Drive Confidence initiative which offers a commitment to helping rental companies and industrial operators navigate the growing complexity of their daily operations. “In a context where safety requirements, cost control, equipment uptime, and operational efficiency are becoming increasingly critical, Drive Confidence aims to provide customers with greater visibility, confidence, and control over their equipment lifecycle,” said the company.

As well as the ODA, the HA20 E Pro at the show included innovations including FASTN, the harness anchorage detection system, Pedestrian Detection Assist to improve jobsite awareness, Advanced Access Management for controlled machine access and operation, and the Transport Handle, designed to support safer and more ergonomic loading and unloading operations.

ODA is now available as a factory-installed option on the HA20 E and the Sigma 16 and offers four key benefits: minimising collision risks through continuous environment scanning, enhancing awareness with clear visual and audible alerts, maximising protection for equipment and surrounding environment, with automatic movement cut-out before impact, as well as improved operational precision in confined or complex environments.
