Geda transport platforms have been helping to carry out the extensive renovation of Prague’s Motol hospital over the last year and a half.

Prague’s Motol district is home to one of Europe’s largest hospitals, incorporating the largest children’s hospital in the country, including highly specialised care.

The newly renovated building is designed in the shape of a cross, has four wings and a helipad so that patients can be quickly transported to the emergency department. The paediatric department in the C wing alone has ten floors of wards, including one medical floor and three technical floors. The hospital is also used as a teaching facility by the Charles University.

The renovation has made use of 23 Geda transport platforms; 15 1500 Z/ZP, five GEDA 500 Z/ZP and three GEDA 300 Z units were used. They were provided by rental company Boels CZ, and originally supplied by distributor Asbach-Bäumenheim in Bavaria.

Numerous scaffolders, façade builders, roofers and internal construction workers were needed for the extensive and time-consuming project, including 23 Geda employees.

The 1500 Z/ZP and 500 Z/ZP with its B and the BS platforms were used for the day-to-day work.

The are both the same size at 1.45m x 3.3m but have different capacities of 1500kg and 2000kg, respectively. The platforms enable quick and easy loading and unloading of the façade panels for the insulation of the hospital, while also transporting workers.

The GEDA 1500 Z/ZP has 14 platform variants many of which can be individually adapted to the construction site using a conversion kit and is designed for heights of up to 100m.

As well as the 1500 Z/ZP, the 500kg capacity 500 Z/ZP was used, which can be extended to 850kg for five people. The 500 Z/ZP transports materials or workers up to 100m with a lifting speed of 12 m/min for people and 24 m/min for materials. At the hospital, the 500 Z/ZP was installed at a lifting height of 40m.

To reduce the load, the GEDA 300 Z was used for roof work. Despite being lighter, the 300 Z can transport loads of up to 300kg to a lifting height of 100m. Like the transport platforms, the three 300 Z material lifts were installed at the Prague hospital at a lifting

height of 40m to transport various construction materials.

The Eco safety gates ensure the required level of safety at the construction site and make it easy to load and unload the materials and equipment.

The platform can be swivelled by 90° on one side, allowing workers to access hard-to-reach areas.
