JLG has been awarded a $40 million contract to build 280 EBFL (extendable boom forklifts) for the US Marine Corps.

Denny Buterbaugh, JLG Industries' vice president - government products and programmes said, "With increasing frequency, the US military is looking to JLG Industries for the technical expertise that provides solutions to their equipment challenges. We are proud of the military's confidence in our ability to deliver equipment that meets their high standards for reliability and productivity."

Also known as MMVs (Millennia Military Vehicles), EBFLs reach into trucks or shipping containers, lift loads over obstacles and pick up loads from both above and below grade. Capable of moving all palletised material classes up to its rated capacity, the four-wheel drive, rubber-tired forklift is medium-lift capable, with an optimum lifting range of 4000 to 11000 pounds. In addition, the EBFL provides three steering modes - two-wheel, four-wheel and crab steering - to provide manoeuverability in tight spaces.

The EBFLs will be built at the JLG facility in McConnellsburg, with an anticipated completion date of August 2012.
