Leicestershire-based access rental firm Nationwide Platforms teamed up with 13 sixth-year students from Lutterworth College in the UK to provide sponsorship for their part in the Formula 1 2013-2014 school competition.

The international competition aims to encourage students to think more about engineering. Each participating team is required to use 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test, and then race miniature compressed gas powered balsa wood F1 cars.

Lutterworth College’s Team Momentus reached the national finals at the Big Bang Festival at the Birmingham NEC. The team eventually finished eighth in the whole country.

Jacob Moore of Team Momentus said: “With the support of Nationwide Platforms we’ve been pleased to achieve even more than we ever hoped this year. We’d like to thank the business whole-heartedly for their sponsorship and their willingness to back us in all of our endeavours with the competition.”

Nationwide Platforms’ managing director, Jeremy Fish, said: “Congratulations to Team Momentus for their outstanding achievements in this competition. As a business we believe in the importance of supporting the communities in which we work and we’re very proud to have supported this group of students in their very impressive accomplishments.”

As part of its gold sponsorship of the team, Nationwide Platforms’ logo and branding are featured on the Momentus F1 team uniforms and the car itself.
