US Army orders 72 JLG Atlas telehandlers

JLG has received an order for 72 Atlas telehandlers from the US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command. The machines, worth $10.3 million, will be delivered over a six-month period.

"The Atlas model telehandlers were designed specifically to meet the needs of the US military," said Denny Buterbaugh, vice president of government products and programs at JLG, "and have been deployed in Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt and throughout the United States."

Atlas machines have also been used in the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts, the Indonesian tsunami clean up and other international relief efforts.

Atlas telehandlers can lift and place material weighing 4545 kg (10000 lb) to heights of 5 m (nearly 17 ft). The detachable counterweight means they can be made ready for air transport in 15 min.
