Alimak partners with leading engineering charity

Alimak Group has partnered with voluntary organisation Engineers Without Borders Sweden (EWBS), in a bid to strengthen its community sustainability initiatives.

EWBS carries out engineering works around the world to help local communities overcome the technical challenges of sustainable development. Its humanitarian projects aim to help people in need by providing engineering expertise for long-term improvements to education, equality, energy poverty and access to water and sanitation.

“Sustainability is at the core of our business and through humanitarian engineering, we want to support people around the world who need help and to engage, inspire and unite them to build a more sustainable future,” said Jødahl.

As part of its partnership with the charitable organisation, Alimak will provide both funding and specialist technical knowledge for EWBS projects.

While the access specialist has yet to announce the specific projects it will be involved in, it is expected that they will include projects like EWBS’ work to improve the educational situation in Karagwe and Kyerwa, in north-west Tanzania. EWBS, and its other partners in the region, are “systematically improving the water and sanitation conditions at 131 primary schools”.

Initiatives like EWBS’s Engineer to Engineer programme, which provides a platform where refugee engineers and scientists can network and gain the necessary tools to enter the Swedish labour market, are also expected to be among the projects Alimak supports.

Alimak, which is working to a 30% reduction in its carbon footprint by 2025, said its goal is to “contribute to a sustainable world, where engineering enables long-term positive, social and global development for the benefit of both people and the environment”.
