CPL launches third-generation 4X4 MEWP

Cumberland Platforms Ltd (CPL), the UK-based vehicle-mounted specialist owned by the Klubb Group, has launched the ‘third generation’ of its well-known 4x4 aerial platform.

The 14.2 m working height platform CPL KA14, which is made at CPL’s facility in Kettering, UK, is mounted on an Isuzu D-Max 4x4 chassis and has been designed to meet the demand in the UK and Europe for “off-road rental, arboriculture, and utility equipment.”

Alongside its 14.2m working height, the KA14 has a horizontal outreach of 6.5m and basket capacity of 240kg.

CPL said the model uses high-strength steel boom structures and protected internal cabling to ensure uptime in off-road environments.

The boom has been co-engineered by CPL with its parent, Klubb Group, and Italian brand Isoli, which Klubb acquired in 2022.

The company said its “deeply integrated manufacturing footprint in the UK and Europe” meant that it could maintain strict delivery schedules, “providing rental firms with a reliable route to fleet expansion.”

It said a localised supply chain offered price stability and well as reducing the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transport of parts and components.

“[We] have established a blueprint for resilient, transparent equipment procurement”, added the company.

No need for heavy vehicle driving licence

The platform can be driven on a standard B+E driver’s licence, meaning no need for a heavy goods vehicle licence.

CPL, which was acquired by Klubb in 2018, produced its first vehicle-mounted platforms in 2011 and has since sold more than 2,000 units in the UK and globally. It claims UK market leadership for 4x4 MEWPs.

The original 4x4 model introduced by CPL was mounted on a Land Rover Defender and used a Socage A314 boom. In 2013 it launched a new model using a Toyota Hilux and in subsequent years also launched models mounted on Isuzu chassis. From 2018, it partnered with Palfinger with the P130 platform.
