Omme Lift files for insolvency

Lars Omme, the CEO of Denmark-based spider and trailer mount manufacturer Omme Lift has announced that it has applied for insolvency.

In a statement he said Omme said the last 2.5 years have been among the most demanding in his professional career, “but despite the dedication and hard work of many talented people, we were unfortunately unable to secure the company’s future.”

“When I joined as CEO in February 2024, the ambition was to strengthen the company’s market position, drive business development, and create a foundation for future growth. However, it quickly became clear that liquidity would be the defining challenge.”

As a third-generation family-owned corporation the company has undergone significant development over its more than 100 years history. 

Omme Lift was founded in 1906, by Frederik W. Lorentsen; a local smithy in the same town where his father was a wheelwright craftsman.

In 1927 brothers Kristian and Frode W. Lorentsen inherited the smithy and developed it into a production company, manufacturing a range of farm machinery.

Then, in 1964 the company built a new larger 3,000 square metre factory outside of town, where it remains today. By 1974, it had become the leading manufacturer of self-propelled irrigation machines in Europe and in 1980 produced its first aerial lift, a 9m unit, for a local electrician.

The company was handed over to the family’s third-generation; Torben, Frederik and Harry W. Lorentsen, in 1983 and in 2000 stopped producing farming machinery and became a 100% lift producer, before launching its first spider in 2002.

By 2004 the company has produced 5,000 machines and in 2008 expanded its factory to 18,000 square metres and ultimately employed 110 people.

In his statement, Omme said that the company had been declared banckrupt on 9 June, adding, “I would also like to thank our customers, suppliers, business partners, board of directors, and other stakeholders for their trust and support throughout this journey.”
