Combisafe's new Hanging Platform system being used to repair the Magpie Viaduct in southwest England

Combisafe's new Hanging Platform system being used to repair the Magpie Viaduct in southwest England, one of many built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Barney Green, Combisafe's business development manager, told SI that the I company already had its own rental operations in the Stockholm area of Sweden as well as independent rental partners, and was now looking to replicate this strategy in Germany. So far it has three rental partners in the country – Siloco (Hamburg), Niemayer (Berlin) and Warner (Dusseldorf).

The company manufactures portable steel mesh barriers, temporary fall protection systems and safety nets for materials and personnel. It has also recently launched a Hanging Platform product (pictured) that provides safe access to the edge of structures without requiring support from the ground.

The key rental product is the steel mesh barriers – temporary guardrails to provide edge protection. Each of its three German partners has between 5000 and 10000 linear metres of barrier in its rental fleet.

Mr Green said the use of rental partners to develop the market was important because of the scale of investment required. He said the company was keen to develop its rental partnerships in the UK as well.

The company is also seeing more tube and fitting scaffolders contemplate using Combisafe's portable guard rails as an alternative to traditional scaffold guardrails. Mr Green said its barriers were faster to install and dismantle.
