Hybeko launches electric tunnel boom

Norway-based Hybeko Group has launched the new Hybeko Tunnel Z-45DC, a fully electric tunnel boom lift developed specifically for demanding tunnel and infrastructure applications where low emissions, high safety standards and operational flexibility are essential.

The machine is based on the Genie Z-45 platform but has been specially modified by Hybeko’s special machines division with a strong focus on safety, operational reliability and efficiency in tunnel environments.

With a maximum working height of 15.92m and a maximum horizontal outreach of 6.94m, the machine has been developed for demanding and space-restricted environments. The electric drivetrain also contributes to reduced noise and emissions during tunnel operations.

Tunnel focused design

The Hybeko Tunnel Z-45 has been specifically designed for tunnel applications and can be supplied with various custom adaptations and additional equipment developed for demanding tunnel and infrastructure operations.

The machine can operate on up to eight degrees inclination while elevated, offering an unrestricted platform capacity of 300kg and a restricted capacity of 430kg.

Other key features include the ablity to operate on up to eight degrees inclination while elevated, 45% gradeability, active oscillating axle and foam-filled non-marking rough terrain tyres. 

Custom adaptations and additional equipment for tunnel and infrastructure operations include a fire suppression system, additional battery box, quick-change battery box solution, four warning beacons, tectyl rust protection, 12V platform work lights and front and rear driving lights

Electric operation is particularly beneficial in tunnel environments where ventilation requirements, emissions and noise reduction are important factors.

Pål Tveitan, product development and sales manager for special machines at Hybeko AS, believes the market is increasingly demanding purpose-built and electric solutions for tunnel operations.

“We clearly see growing demand from both contractors and rental companies for more sustainable machines without compromising on capacity or functionality. With the Hybeko Tunnel Z-45, we wanted to develop a solution specifically adapted to the challenges faced in tunnel projects,” said Tveitan.

The first major investment has already been made by rental company Renta Infra, which has strengthened its fleet with several Hybeko Tunnel Z-45 machines.

Over the years, Hybeko has developed several special machines tailored for the tunnel and infrastructure sector, including tunnel-adapted scissor lifts, shore power handling machines and custom-built boom lifts for demanding applications.

With increasing activity in tunnel construction and infrastructure projects across the Nordics, Hybeko expects growing demand for electric special machines developed specifically for tunnel and underground operations.
