Civil and infrastructure specialist Abyss Construction has started works on the Sydney Metro West renovation project, utilising two Magni rotating telehandlers to carry out works across three separate sites.

Abyss is currently using the RTH 6.26 and RTH 7.26 models, both supplied by authorised dealer Allift, for the project, which aims to revolutionise the Metro network by connecting Sydney’s northwest, west, southwest and greater west areas with fast and fully accessible services.

The RTH 6.26 at the project’s Central Station site, where main upgrade works - including the construction of two new underground platforms and a new 19m wide underground concourse - are underway.

The Magni RTH 6.26 has been equipped with a 6-tonne hook in order to complete demolition works that involve lifting 4.7t concrete segments measuring 2.2m x 1.5m x 0.47m.

Abyss also used the machine to lift and transport 3.9-tonne track slab segments measuring 2.4m x 2.4m x 0.3m, loading them onto trucks for transport to the other side of the site.

At the Sydney Metro’s Chatswood station site a new building, known as the Northern Dive Services, is being constructed for the operation of new metro train services.

Here, Abyss is using the Magni RTH 7.26 telehandler to install and strip prefabricated wall formwork for a 450mm thick, 80m long and 8.5m high reinforced concrete wall for the services building.

Due to the site’s restricted space and the presence of two live rails with a full concrete roof structure overhead, the RTH 7.26 telehandler has been equipped with a 2-tonne jib to help erect the wall in sections.
